After Power kills the Sea Cucumber Devil, Makima reprimands her because the Devil was claimed by a civilian hunter. Power tries to blame Denji, but Makima demands that the pair cooperate and produce results. Denji remains focused on his new personal goal, and Power notices his interest. She offers him a reward if he helps rescue Meowy, the cat she once cared for, from the Bat Devil. With limited permission to leave headquarters, they travel to an abandoned house outside the city. Power recalls finding Meowy when the cat was starving and gradually becoming attached despite initially planning to eat it. At the house, however, Power knocks Denji unconscious and delivers him to the Bat Devil, having agreed to trade a human for Meowy's return. The Bat Devil drinks Denji's blood to restore its damaged arm but complains about the taste. It breaks its promise, swallows Meowy and Power, and flies toward the city in search of better prey. Denji catches the Devil, transforms, and fights it through buildings and streets. Though angered by Power's betrayal, he understands losing a companion and ultimately tears the Bat Devil apart.
