Jiruo takes him beyond the city to a traveling medical caravan, where the symptoms vanish unexpectedly. The pharmacist Mio suspects that the Abyss itself may be involved. In Nanachi’s hideout, Reg panics when he finds Mitty lying over Riko, but Nanachi explains that Mitty has become attached to her and means no harm. Nanachi then demonstrates the structure of the Abyss’s force field with a thin relic. Ascending pushes a person through layered pressure that causes the Curse, while Nanachi can see distortions in that field.
