Denji finally receives the reward Power promised, but the experience feels empty and leaves him confused about why achieving a long-awaited goal brought so little satisfaction. Makima notices his mood and explains that intimacy becomes meaningful through understanding another person. She guides his hand to her body and uses the encounter to focus his attention on a new assignment: if Denji kills the Gun Devil, she will grant any wish he chooses. Aki explains that the Gun Devil appeared years earlier after worldwide fear of firearms increased, killing 1.2 million people in minutes, including Aki's family. Fragments of its flesh attract one another, allowing hunters to track Devils that have consumed them. Aki's team enters a hotel where such a fragment has been detected. The group includes Denji, Power, Aki, Himeno, Kobeni Higashiyama, and Hirokazu Arai. Himeno demonstrates the invisible hand of the Ghost Devil, obtained by sacrificing her right eye, and turns the mission into a competition by offering Denji a kiss if he succeeds. After killing a strange Devil on the eighth floor, the team discovers that every stairway and window returns them to the same corridor, leaving them trapped.
