A surviving hand of the Ghost Devil pulls Denji's starter cord, reviving him as Chainsaw Man. He attacks Samurai Sword but is defeated and cut in half. Akane and her allies load Denji's upper body into a van, intending to take his heart. In Kyoto, Makima unexpectedly rises after being shot and kills the attackers aboard her train. She meets Public Safety agents Yutaro Kurose and Michiko Tendo and requests a high-altitude shrine, thirty death-row prisoners, and the names of the Tokyo assailants. From the shrine, she performs a ritual in which each prisoner speaks a target's name and dies as that target is crushed from afar. The gang around the van is rapidly eliminated, forcing Akane and Samurai Sword to flee. Kobeni intercepts them with startling speed, using a knife and a captured gun to protect Denji, though the attackers escape. She apologizes to Denji for previously trying to sacrifice him and grieves Arai, who died shielding her during the attack. Back in Tokyo, Madoka reports that the special divisions suffered catastrophic losses and resigns. Makima announces that Divisions 1 through 4 will merge under her command, while refusing to say how much she knew about the assault beforehand.
