Denji refuses Himeno's offer after remembering Makima giving him a lollipop and promising that his first intimate experience would remain memorable. In the morning, Himeno cannot recall the previous night. She and Denji form an alliance: he will help her pursue Aki, and she will help him get closer to Makima. Their ordinary conversation is interrupted by a coordinated assault on Public Safety. Gunmen attack Devil Hunters across Tokyo, and Makima is shot aboard a train to Kyoto. At a restaurant, a man claiming to be the grandson of Denji's former yakuza boss shoots Denji in the head and wounds Himeno. Aki summons the Fox Devil against him, but the attacker transforms into Samurai Sword, another human-Devil hybrid. Aki uses the Curse Devil at severe personal cost and appears to defeat him, only for Akane Sawatari to revive him. Samurai Sword cuts Aki down. Mortally wounded, Himeno gives the Ghost Devil everything she has, causing her body to disappear as the full Devil manifests and restrains Samurai Sword. Akane responds by summoning the Snake Devil, which consumes the Ghost Devil. Himeno vanishes completely, while Denji remains unconscious and the attackers retain control of the scene.
