Inside the Eternity Devil, Denji keeps his chainsaws running while the creature tears apart his body. He survives by drinking its blood, creating a cycle in which both combatants continually regenerate. Himeno watches the apparently suicidal strategy and recalls Kishibe, her former instructor, saying that Devils fear hunters whose thinking is impossible to predict. She also remembers trying to persuade Aki to abandon Public Safety and go private, hoping to keep him away from the Gun Devil. Denji's relentless attack continues for three days until the exhausted Eternity Devil exposes its heart and begs to be killed. After the team escapes, Himeno organizes a welcome party with other members of Special Division 4. Denji expects the kiss she promised, while Makima's arrival makes him anxious about receiving it in front of her. The hunters drink, trade personal information, and discuss how frequently rookies die. A heavily intoxicated Himeno finally kisses Denji but vomits into his mouth, causing him to lose consciousness. She carries him back to her apartment. Denji wakes in her bed, and Himeno, still drunk, offers to sleep with him, leaving him to decide whether to accept.
